About 21 million U.S. adults had at least one major depressive episode in 2020. Depressive disorder, frequently referred to as simply depression, is more than just feeling sad or going through a rough patch. It's a serious mental health condition that requires understanding and medical care.
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health concern in the United States. Anxiety disorders are a group of related conditions, each having unique symptoms. GAD produces chronic, exaggerated worrying about everyday life.
If left untreated, bipolar disorder usually worsens. However, with a good treatment plan including psychotherapy, medications, a healthy lifestyle, a regular schedule and early identification of symptoms, many people live well with this mental health condition.
This mental health disorder is characterized by panic attacks and sudden feelings of terror sometimes striking repeatedly and without warning. Often mistaken for a heart attack, a panic attack causes powerful symptoms including chest pain, heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath and stomach upset. Many people will go to desperate measures to avoid an attack, including social isolation.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a mental health condition which is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. With treatment, people with ADHD can be successful in school, work and lead productive lives.
